GLIST

UI + UX. User Research. Graphic Design. High-Fidelity Prototype.

Glist is a grocery list app developed in response to common frustrations surrounding inaccurate grocery lists during my college years. By using your recipes to track pantry items, it ensures you don't forget necessary items or buy unnecessary ones. Beyond list management, Glist doubles as a recipe book, offering added functionality. In a crowded market of grocery list apps, Glist distinguishes itself by combining recipe management and efficient list creation. It's a practical solution addressing personal experiences and conversations with friends while reducing food waste and enhancing the shopping process.

Research

My research began by analyzing AllRecipes, a potential competitor to Glist. AllRecipes allowed users to add groceries directly from recipes, but its design back in 2016-2017 felt cluttered. It also lacked support for lower-income families and did not facilitate multiple people sharing a single grocery list.

To make Glist more accessible, I aimed to incorporate coupon functionality, a warmer design, multi-user support within a household, and the ability to include secondary households for users managing multiple homes. This analysis guided the development of Glist, ensuring it offered a more user-friendly, inclusive, and practical grocery list solution for a broader audience.

The site map serves as a visually appealing alternative to traditional wireframes. It outlines the interactions required to reach specific points in the app. It underwent scrutiny by over 20 students for functionality, accessibility, and aesthetics. This site map also serves as part of a pitch to potential investors and is included alongside a high-fidelity prototype, presenting a comprehensive and attractive overview of the app's design and functionality.

Prototype

The prototype was finalized and hosted on InVision, and can be viewed below or on mobile at this link

With hindsight, there's a desire to enhance the prototype with additional functionality like delivery options, improved accessibility features, and a more streamlined design. Reflecting on the past few years, it seems like an update to align with modern mobile app standards could significantly enhance the app's appearance and user experience. These self-critiques will be considered in the next iteration of Glist's design.
